Definition of the word Politician

Finance

I thought I would look up the definition of the word ‘politician’ (as you do when you have some spare time) – and this is what I found…

‘A person who is professionally involved in politics, especially as a holder of an elected office’.

And in the US it appears to have a slightly different meaning…

US – ‘A person who acts in a manipulative and devious way, typically to gain advancement within an organization.’

I think I know which definition I prefer.
