Wall Street slides

Wall Street slides.

At the bell yesterday (23/08/17) the DOW Jones Industrial Average, The S&P 500 and NASDAQ where all down.

Much of the uncertainty stems from Donald Trump’s threat to ‘shut down government’ if funds are not secured to build the Mexico/US wall! Doesn’t inspire much confidence does it really. Didn’t Trump originally say Mexico would pay for the wall anyhow? Odd!

The US debt limit comes under regular scrutiny and if funding cannot be passed by Congress then non-essential services stop and government is effectively ‘shut down’. Barack Obama also faced this problem over demands from the Republican party and his healthcare reforms in 2013.

The difference between now and then was that the Republican party were threatening to shut down government and not the president.
